WATER UPDATES - HOPE & LIES

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —As the village of Magdalena’s water shortage nears its second week, Albuquerque police and residents have decided to step up and help out.

The Albuquerque Police Department is asking residents to stop by the Prisoner Transport Center and drop off bottles of water, which have become the only source of cooking and drinking for so many in Magdalena.

There will be a mobile command unit available at the Coors Boulevard and Ellison Drive NW Walmart to take donations Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a donation site at the Walmart located at Wyoming Boulevard and Academy Road NE on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We just want to be a good neighbor here in New Mexico,” said Briane Dennison, APD Chaplain Commander. “Go down there and bless them with water… we’re looking to take two 25 ft. trailers full of donated water down to them.”

APD’s Operation Hope team also organized donations for Moore, Oklahoma after a tornado struck.

Using money from the Chaplain Unit Fund, APD has purchased two pallets of water. Since, Albuquerque residents have donated thousands of water bottles.

“It really shows the heart behind the badge,” said Dennison.

The deadline to drop off water donations is Friday at 8 a.m. If you’d like to donate money to the APD Chaplain Unit Fund, call 505-768-2131.

their PR campaign for the project. It's filled with nonsense,

and outright lies. Here's the photo and text

With support from local, state, and federal agencies as well as New Mexico’s local communities, this project can begin delivering this desperately needed water within five years.

Well, golly. Here we are talking about the

Middle Rio Grande Valley, and we have a nice photo

of the Organ Mountains, FAR to the south of the Middle

in the MESILLA VALLEY.

Well, you can see what kind of ignorant fools we're

dealing with. They can't even illustrate their text correctly.

That picture is NOT from the area we're talking about.
It's about a hundred miles south.

"Well, it does't matter. Not in the slightest."

Oh yes it does, our little moron. Our little PR pimp.
This kind of BS is blatantly illegal.

It's misleading. It's bad advertising practice.
A photo is the product in action, one might say.
You're talkin' Middle Rio Grande Valley,
and showin' Mesilla Valley.
It's false advertising.
Someone needs to report you guys to the
Attorney General's Office. Maybe I will.
Misleading people on WATER right now ought
to be a hanging offense.

There might be a method to their madness.
They'll have that used-car salesman disguised as an attorney
from Las Cruces that serves in the State Legislature,
Joseph Cervantes, crawling into bed with them,
thinking he'll get some of the water moved south,
to Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley.
That would be absolutely wonderful
for the gospel of "growth" that Cervantes
preaches in the public pulpits on behalf of the
"best interests" of southern New Mexico.
"Best interests" as defined by developers, agri-business,
bankers, hustlers, and ignorant politicians.

Oh, I see what's going on here now.
You guys are clever.
But you're still breaking the law.
Misrepresentation may be common at your office,
but it doesn't fly too well if you get caught.

Ignorant. Amateurish. Fraudulent.

Must be that bunch over at The Waite Company at work.

It's amazing. You'd think the foreigners would get

someone worth a shit. Hell, they've got the money.
Or are they just too damned 'TIGHT' -
still have the first buck they ever made.

The Scotch and the Jews have both had to suffer

racial stereotyping because of this very trait

among some bad apples in their population -

the cheap ones, the slow-to-pay, the greedy,

no charity (except when it's public),

no soul.

Cash is the sole/soul denominator.

Anyhow, it's all as bland as can be and

loaded with misinformation. We'll take each

page and dissect it on the blog over time.

It's neat that I can just copy it, (and I have),

page by page, and we can all examine it, together,

and take a careful look at what they're

claiming - dissect the data.

It's unbelievably stupid. It's a commercial site.
I don't copyright because I want my material
spread to the four directions.
Not to copyright the company message seems strange at best,
or incredibly dim-witted on the other end.
What, was the company attorney on a bender?
Who are these dismal failures?
And who pays them?
The masters seem as stupid as the slaves,
and vice-versa.
Why does the San Augustin Plains water issue
draw such secretive,
fraudulent, worthless, un-American, anti-American,
shysters to the table?
Who also refuse to pay for a good PR outfit.

What's wrong with these people?
Too much good food and wine?
Too much EUROTRASH life?
(A cop told me that EUROTRASH is a new term
in law enforcement
for all the scam artists from EUROPA that
enter the American scene for operations of all types.
A new twist on white trash - this defines it geographically,
trash from the Old Country -

The LLC has been on this "green" and "eco-friendly"

campaign as of the last six months or so - they keep

coming up with new sales ideas. This one's a lie.

Paragraph #3 states:

WATER THIEVES HAVE NEW WEBSITE, NEWS RE: PRAYER VIGIL

The post that went up yesterday is nowhere to be found.
Basically it was about the new website the LLC has put up
to "sell" their idea.
The site is filled with misleading information
and outright lies. It's probably from The Waite Company,
the PR shills from Albuquerque that our foreigners
have hired as their latest "frontmen" on the scam.

For the people who are dealing with a water shortage and its effects - both financial and personal - from Magdalena to the Plains, from the Rio Grande Valley to Elephant Butte Reservoir.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For firefighters on the front lines, for pilots and crews, and all who are working across the State of New Mexico at this time to contain fires - for their safety and stamina.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the animals and birds that have lost habitat or lack water sources, for the plants and trees, rivers and lakes, and all creation that is suffering because of drought and fire, and often because of human greed or human carelessness.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the farmers and ranchers, and others of our rural communities whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by fire, drought, or water theft.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the just and wise use of the water You have given us, to be gracious stewards of Your creation and good neighbors with all people.

A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION ON WHO???

Here's a letter I wrote this afternoon to the

Magdalena Mountain Mail, that will come
out in the April 27 edition (Saturday).

Yesterday I came home for lunch and found a New Mexico

State Police Officer parked at my house. After we introduced

ourselves, he proceeded to read me my Miranda Rights and

told me I was the subject of a "criminal investigation" for

alleged "violent threats" against the people involved in the

Water Grab on the San Augustin Plains.

After a lot of questions and answers, he went on his way,

but asked me to have "hard copy" of some of my blog posts,

and whatever else I thought relevant to the investigation, ready

when he came by this morning. So, I gathered everything up,

and am ready....and waiting....and waiting.

Car 54, where are you?

It's now 1:20 and I'm curious about what this all means.

Dropped - no evidence? Further investigation proceeding?

From what he told me, the "complaint" of threats must have

come from The Waite Company, the Albuquerque PR outift

(shill) for the foreign investors. I have never threatened anyone

in this mess. I have talked about the potential of violence here,

on my blog - STOPTHEWATERGRAB.BLOGSPOT.COM -

but I have never encouraged it, or said that I would personally

perpetrate violence in the matter. To discuss what COULD BE
an unfortunate outcome to the situation

is simply looking at the realities.

I gave him as personal references Marshal Larry

Cearley of Magdalena, and George Vanwinkle, Chief of Police

in Socorro. I could have added on a former FBI agent to the

list, a man I work with on occasion, but figured

that would be overdoing things.

Intimidation is not to be unexpected in

something like this. The Project Director for the LLC,

Michel Jichlinski, is a piece of work.

Read about how millions of your tax-dollars were stolen
when he ran the Louis Berger Group, a federal contractor
working in Afghanistan and worldwide. They got hit with the

largest fine ever for a war-time contractor - 69.3 million,

for cooking the books and other shenanigans.

The Modena Family Group, the Italians and their

"investors" involved in the scheme, are a bunch of shadowy

corporate characters - no financial statements, no tax returns,

no background data, no nada. It's all on the blog. These people

are NOT the kind of folks you want to do business with,

especially in the matter of WATER.

So, I still wait for the officer, and think about

The Waite Company, and Jichlinski, and the LLC,

and what evil lurks in the hearts of men.

If you're with the "good guys" on this deal, don't worry.

Don't be intimidated. I'm not. I've got Duffy and Ziggy,

my "guard" dogs, neither of them too intimidating,

but noisy - like me. And I'm going to keep on making noise,
come hell or high water.

Well, it's late Thursday and my friend Officer
Jaime Dominguez has yet to return.
This may all be a "wash" as they say - and
nothing further will come of it. Time will tell.
The problem may have come about because of
people's ignorance of what words in the English language
actually mean. An article published in the Rio Rancho
Observer about the issue last week had some statements
in it attributed to me, including this:

“The very idea of foreign ownership of water is a really, really
bad idea,” Middleton said.
He also questioned if it’s fair that growth be allowed to the
detriment of rural communities.
Plus, Middleton expects violence if the project were allowed.
“Water’s too precious to allow someone to do this when it all
comes down to, really, is money,” Middleton said.
“It’s unethical.”

To say that something is "expected" is not the same
thing as saying you condone it, or would participate.
But, we need to be fair here - remember,
  the public relations firm, The Waite Company, is a
public relations firm.  A lot of PR people twist the meaning
of words regularly, and openly fudge on the truth,
to where the actual meaning of almost any word or
statement is suspect or simply unknown.
The English words "VALUE" and "STAKEHOLDERS"
are examples of what I'm talking about.
.
PR firms aren't generally known for excellence in
English language usage, but rather how you "shape"
a message, or "spin" it, as they say.
How well you lie can make you rich in this biz.
Their forte is falsification and misrepresentation,
the sordid details of "packaging" people and companies,
or hideous, greedy, ill-designed schemes like this one -
in this "smoke and mirrors" world that we now live in.

Someone may have been so stupid here that they panicked and
called someone to get the "heat" on me, without realizing
that their fears were foolish, unnecessary, and ignorant.
Maybe Jichlinski's English isn't too hot, and he misread
what I said, and told the Waite outfit to jump on it -
call the DA's office and get something going.
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it wasn't stupidity at all,
but just plain harassment and/or intimidation.
.
It doesn't matter. Political connections were probably
what got the State Police to my house. So be it.
I wonder what else is up their sleeve....
PR "flacks," as they are called,  aren't noted for
being very bright, or even very interesting,
but very clever, sly, scheming.
Like a fox.

I think I hear a commotion out back in the henhouse.

Postscript:
I should add that the timing was near-perfect -
the day before, the decision was made to have a special
"Prayer for a Peaceful Resolution"
as part of the June program being planned.
An inter-faith
"PRAYER VIGIL FOR RAIN &
BLESSING OF THE WATERS"
will take place June 15, 2 pm, at the
Chapel of the Living Waters
at Montosa Campground - 13.5
miles west of Magdalena - (there will be signs).
We'll have more info about what's being planned, and
who all is participating, within a couple of weeks.
It should be a very interesting afternoon, with
"Prayers, Songs, and Ceremonies" from a number of faiths.
But a "Prayer for a Peaceful Resolution" is a MUST-HAVE
for an event here during these times, these circumstances.
Below is the chapel itself - a dream of B.W. Cox,
who is graciously allowing us to hold our services at this
little church in the pines, just above the San Augustin Plains,
and so perfectly named.

"GREENWASHING" THE SAN AUGUSTIN PROJECT

It's a little far afield from the Golden State, but ReWire got an emailed press release last week that piqued our interest. The release, concerning a water pipeline project in New Mexico, made the claim that powering that pipeline with solar and hydroelectric power would make that pipeline "eco-friendly." But something about the release raised our skepticism.

Here's the release's first two paras:

NEW YORK CITY -- As New Mexico's drought and demand-driven water crisis continues to deepen, leaders from around the state are looking hard for viable, long-term solutions to both sustain the state's population growth and protect its fragile natural environment. One of the most promising options, the Augustin Plains Ranch project, was unveiled to the nation for the first time this week at the Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum in New York City.The Augustin Plains Ranch, located in west-central New Mexico, is proposing to develop an eco-friendly, water reclamation and transport project that will pump 54 thousand acre-feet of water out of a massive underground lake and pipe it to communities in need anywhere from Santa Fe to Southern New Mexico. This "green" project will operate under its own electricity produced through hydro and solar power, and will replenish the aquifer over the years with rainwater and snowmelt that is currently being lost to evaporation. It is also expected to create hundreds of permanent jobs for New Mexicans.

As it happens, the Augustin Plains Ranch water project has been in the news for quite some time in New Mexico. As ReWire's pal and Western water maven John Fleck put it in a 2011 article in the Albuquerque Journal, 54,000 acre-feet per year is enough to meet the needs of the City of Albuqerque, and enough to make the current residents of the Augustin Plains area, near Datil, NM, rather nervous:

Those in the central New Mexico ranch country where the water would start its journey, though, fear the project would leave them high and dry.[Rancher Ray] Pittman and his wife, Carol, use a second well to provide water to two ranch houses, three horses, two donkeys, "six or seven cats," one dog and nine goldfish that call one of the stock tanks home. The Pittmans and their neighbors fear the Augustin Plains Ranch water pumping project will dry up the landscape and way of life they hold dear. "People are afraid that this will deplete the aquifer," said Carol Pittman. "We all have wells."
The proposal would "essentially dry up the whole damn basin," said Albuquerque hydrologist Frank Titus. Water would disappear from wells used by people like the Pittmans, said Titus.

The Augustin Plains Ranch project has been through its ups and downs since first proposed in 2007. More than a thousand people wrote formal protests of the project. New Mexico's State Engineer denied the project's application in 2011; when developers Augustin Plains Ranch LLC went to court to ask the Engineer's decision be overturned, the court backed up the Engineer rather resoundingly in 2012.
Also in 2012, Augustin Plains Ranch LLC shifted their story on the project's hydrology to claim that they'd be shipping 54,000 acre-feet of water a year that would otherwise be lost to evaporation, causing Fleck and others to wonder aloud just where they'd heard that story before.
Now, activists at the Catron County Water Coalition are noting with alarm that project proponents seem to be trying to revive the project with better PR -- while concurrently appealing the court's November 2012 decision upholding the State Engineer. The PR sent to media outlets in far-flung places like KCET in Los Angeles would seem to be part of that.
Make no mistake: pumping water is an energy-intensive process, and we need to figure out a way to use renewable energy to do that pumping in the West. We here in California know that better than many: just one of the Department of Water Resources' pumps on the California Aqueduct, the Edmonston Pumping Plant, eats up 835 megawatts of electrical power to pump water up over the Grapevine. Half of the DWR's power consumption has traditionally been fueled by coal-fired plants: though the Department is working to reduce that amount, there's still work to do getting those pumps to run on renewable energy.
So powering a water pipeline's infrastructure with renewable energy is a good idea. But that doesn't make the pipeline "eco-friendly" all by itself. If the pipeline is pumping water out of an unrecharged aquifer to provide city dwellers with a way to water their lawns, it's not going to be "eco-friendly" even if you make it out of recycled hemp.
There's a word for the corporate practice of glossing over potentially destructive ventures with a thin green veneer. It's called "greenwashing." It's pretty prevalent, and as solar power becomes increasingly popular, solar will be used as a way to greenwash projects that might not otherwise pass the muster of public approval.
But we here in California pretty much invented deceptive water politics, Augustin Plains Ranch. We see your Milagro Beanfield War, raise you Chinatown, and call it. You're gonna have to get a lot slicker if you want to persuade us terminally jaded hipsters out here that your Owens Valley Lite isn't a bad deal for the environment: waving a solar panel at us isn't going to cut it.
